Mondays have always been my favorite day of the week. A chance to start fresh, a new beginning, a reset. One of the ways I set this new cycle into motion is by doing a big grocery shop for the week, and when I was living in the city, this meant heading to Sorauren Farmer’s Market which runs weekly late May to December, and monthly through the winter. While I still engage in purchasing from local food producers in my rural life, I miss the vibrancy and occasion of heading to the farmers market in the city. I know we have reached that point in August where we begin to grieve the summer, but if you live in south-eastern Ontario or the like, you know that the bounty has really just begun! August is for tomatoes, corn, and peaches. September brings apples, fennel, onions, parsnips, potatoes, October is for hearty squashes, pumpkins, and brassicas. There is still plenty of time to get in the habit of shopping for and enjoying fresh, local, organic produce that is in season, and grown with love and care.
