My Modern Approach to Meal Planning and Prep
Something I’ve realized as I work with clients is that the terms ‘meal prep’ and ‘meal planning’ make people tense up. It sounds uptight, rigid, and the opposite of spontaneous - it’s almost as if people see it as a personality flaw, something for the ‘un-chill’. But the same people who turn their noses up at preparation and planning find themselves regularly skipping meals, without groceries, overloaded with decision fatigue on what to cook, spending too much money on takeout, and/or feeling that their diet isn't balanced. Once they are fed up with this pattern they come to me for help and we start to connect the dots around taking the time to plan and making the effort to prepare. Daphne Javitch of Doing Well says it best: ‘failing to plan is planning to fail!’, and this rings all too true when it comes to home cooking.
